This Sunday is called the “Sunday of Forgiveness”. In the early days of the Church (and still in many churches today) every Christian would ask the pardon of his fellow Christian and, as a sign of forgiveness, they would kiss one another. This was so that they would enter into the Great Lent without any malice or ill-feeling in their hearts.
Today at Vespers, the priest after reading a prayer, bows before the congregation and asks them to forgive him, and they in turn ask his forgiveness. Now we enter into the first week of Great Lent.
Mon., Feb.19 at 6PM Canon of St. Andrew of Crete.
Wed., Feb.21 at 5:30PM General Confession; 6PM Pre-Sanctified Liturgy followed by Lenten supper and spiritual discussion.
Fri., Feb. 23 Panihida; If you wish to update your list of names of your deceased family members, see Father Vladimir. It is important to come to this Service and pray for your deceased family members.
Sat., Feb.24 Vespers at 6PM
Sun., Feb. 25 Sunday of Orthodoxy. Divine Liturgy at 10AM.
It is very important for one to attend as many of these Lenten Services as possible.
The total amount of profit for the Church is $900. Many thanks to Irina Yugay and Natasha Kuznetsov and their committee who worked to make this fundraiser a success. Also, thanks to all the people who supported this event.
Volunteers are needed each week after services to vacuum and tidy up the Church. If you are interested in helping leave your name at the desk. It usually takes about a half hour to complete.
As of now, no one has volunteered which means that we need to consider getting a cleaning service to do this job.
